TFDA’s attitude on the safety of imported chocolate
TFDA had proposed a draft (once) which targeting chocolate products with a total cocoa solids content of over 50%, focusing on the management limits for heavy metal cadmium derived from cocoa raw materials. However, due to the popularity of chocolate among consumers in Taiwan, various products have been developed. Therefore, during the public consultation period for the draft, opinions were received from various sectors, leading to a reevaluation and adjustment, expanding the scope of management to include other types of chocolate products. In the revised draft of the "Sanitary Standards for Contaminants and Toxins in Food," announced on August 14th, the cadmium limit for chocolate and related products was once again proposed, with the implementation scheduled for January 1, 2025.
